University of Jaén - Grants to support the achievement of International Mention for doctorates

EDUJA International Mention mobility grant

You will receive 4,000 EUR for a research placement abroad lasting at least 3 consecutive months, as well as a grant towards travel and health insurance. This grant amounts to up to 500 EUR for Western Europe and North Africa, up to 1,000 EUR for Eastern Europe, North and South America and the rest of Africa, and up to 1,500 EUR for the rest of the world. The University of Jaén’s Doctoral School (EDUJA) awards 20 of these scholarships each year from a total budget of 100,000 EUR. During your stay, you can earn the ‘International Mention’ on your doctoral degree, an additional distinction confirming that part of your doctoral thesis was carried out at a foreign institution.

Who can apply

• Enrolment: You are enrolled on a PhD programme at the University of Jaén during the academic year in which the application deadline falls.
• Field of study: All subjects can apply.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Where you go: Your placement will take place at an institution abroad. This must be a different institution from the one where you completed your pre-doctoral training, and must be in a different country from the one where you are currently working.
• No double funding: This stay is not already funded by an FPU, FPI, UJA R&D, Erasmus+ or similar agreement that includes its own mobility grant.
• First time: You have not yet received any funding for this purpose and have not yet completed a period of study abroad to qualify for the ‘International Mention’.

How to apply

Please complete the online form on the EDUJA website, then print it out, sign it and submit it to the University of Jaén by 7 February 2026 at 14:00. Applications will be assessed on the basis of your academic achievements, the alignment of your research plan with your doctoral thesis, your research output and the duration of your doctoral studies.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very targeted. You must be a PhD student in Jaén planning an actual three-month stay abroad as part of the ‘International Mention’ programme; the target group is therefore small. As 20 scholarships are available, your prospects are good if you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and can present a convincing research plan and a solid publication record. The most important thing is to apply by the deadline and to have your letter of acceptance from your host institution to hand.
