San Jorge University - "Heraldo de Aragón" Scholarships

What you get

You will receive a discount of 80% discount on your first-year tuition fees, worth about 6,006 EUR towards a degree in Communication at San Jorge University (USJ) in Zaragoza, Spain. The discount will be deducted from your monthly tuition fees and will not be paid out in cash. You can retain it for the full four-year duration of your Bachelor’s degree programme, provided you renew it each year. If your average mark is at least 8 out of 10, the full amount of 80% will be maintained. If your average mark is between 6.5 and 7.99, the discount will be reduced to 60%. You must also achieve at least 70% of your credit points each year. The USJ funds the scholarship in partnership with the regional newspaper ‘Heraldo de Aragón’, and only one is awarded each year.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are a first-year student on one of the following degree programmes: Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations; Audiovisual Communication; Translation and Intercultural Communication; or on one of the related dual degree programmes.
• University: You study at San Jorge University in Zaragoza and have finished its pre-admission process.
• Where you studied: You have completed your first year of the Bachillerato (Spanish upper secondary education) in Aragón. If you hold a foreign qualification obtained in Spain, you will need an official certificate of recognition from the Ministry of Education.
• Grades: Your average school mark is at least 8 out of 10. This is an academic achievement award, and the candidate with the highest average mark wins.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Financial need: None. Selection is based solely on marks.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the USJ scholarship portal by 28 May. Should several applicants have the same highest grade point average, the earlier date of preliminary admission will be the deciding factor, followed by the earlier application date. The results will be published from the beginning of June.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is given each year and it goes to the single highest-scoring applicant, so this is a top-of-the-class contest rather than a broad award. It is limited to one of a few communication degrees at one university, and to students who did upper secondary school in Aragón, so the eligible group is small. That works in your favour. If your school average is well above the 8-point floor and you complete pre-admission early, you have a genuine shot.
