National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) - CNIC–ACCIONA Master Fellowships (CNIC–ACCIONA Master's Scholarship Program in Biomedicine)

What you get

You get a monthly payment worth up to 9,600 EUR in total for one master's degree in biomedicine at a Spanish public university. The exact amount and duration depend on the size of your master's programme, measured in ECTS credits (the standard European unit for study workload). A 60-credit master pays 800 EUR/month for 12 months. A 120-credit master pays 400 EUR/month for 24 months. On top of that, the CNIC pays your tuition fees and your degree certificate fee. It also pays up to 300 EUR travel costs if you live outside the Madrid region. You are registered in the Spanish social security system during the funding period. Up to 9 scholarships are awarded. The money comes from the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid together with the company ACCIONA. If your work goes well, the CNIC may afterwards offer you a work contract of up to one year.

Who can apply

• Degree: You have a first degree in a field related to biomedicine that lets you enrol in a biomedicine master's for 2026-2027.
• Study stage: You do not already hold a master's degree and have not finished the first year of a master's.
• Where you study: Your master's is at a Spanish public university, and your experimental thesis work (the Trabajo Fin de Máster) is done at the CNIC in Madrid.
• Lab acceptance: You have a signed written agreement from the head of a CNIC laboratory to host your thesis work.
• Grades: Your first-degree average is at least 7.0 on a 0-10 scale. Foreign grades must be converted using the official Spanish equivalence.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• No double funding: You hold no other Spanish public grant and no employment contract. This scholarship cannot be combined with either.

How to apply

You apply through the online form on the CNIC website. The deadline for the 2026 call is 20 July. The CNIC scores applications mainly on grades and academic merit, and may hold an interview before the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: only up to 9 places, a required 7.0 grade average, and the need to line up a CNIC lab head to host your thesis before you even apply. The lab acceptance is the real filter, since only one scholarship goes to each research group. With strong grades and a CNIC lab's written agreement in hand, you are in a small, well-matched field with good prospects. Without that lab contact, you cannot apply at all.
