About this scholarship

Melilla university tuition grant

Once per academic year, you will receive up to 1,000 EUR to cover the tuition fees you have actually paid at a Spanish university. This grant reimburses your actual tuition fees up to this maximum limit. It is provided by the Ciudad Autónoma de Melilla, the Spanish autonomous city, which helps its residents to finance their studies. Places are limited and are allocated on the basis of academic merit; therefore, the grant is not awarded automatically. A total budget of 430,000 EUR is available for the 2025–2026 round. You must reapply every year.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You are registered as a resident (empadronado) in Melilla at the time of publication of the call for applications.
  • University: You are enrolled at a Spanish university for the period from 2025 to 2026. The scholarship also covers the entrance examinations for applicants from 25 or from 45.
  • Field of study: Any topic is suitable.
  • Grades: Your average mark from the previous year is at least 4.0 on the Spanish grading scale. Exams which you did not sit will be marked as 0.
  • No prior degree: You do not yet hold a university degree. You may still apply if you are transferring from a ‘Diplomado’ to a ‘Grado’ or are studying for a second ‘Grado’.
  • No double funding: You are not receiving any further financial support to cover the same tuition fees and have no outstanding tax or social security debts.

How to apply

You can submit your application online via the City’s electronic services portal (sede.melilla.es) or in person at a citizens’ advice centre. The deadline is one month after the publication of the call for applications, which for 2025-2026 corresponds to approximately 17 April 2026. Applications for amounts under 15 EUR will be rejected.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is restricted to residents of Melilla who are studying at a Spanish university, meaning that the pool of applicants is small and limited to the local area. With a budget of 430,000 EUR, more than 600 students were awarded grants in the last round, so your chances are good if you clearly meet the residency and academic requirements. The minimum mark of 4.0 is easy to achieve, but places are allocated on the basis of marks, so a higher grade point average is an advantage.
