About this scholarship

Dr William Jones Williams Scholarship (Bangor University)

During your first year of study at Bangor University in Wales, you will receive a one-off payment of about 1,725 EUR (1,500 GBP). This will be paid at the end of November following your enrolment. Two of these scholarships are awarded each year. They are named after Dr William Jones Williams, a doctor from North Wales who supported the university. The scholarship is valid for the first year only and cannot be carried over to a subsequent year.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are applying for a Bachelor’s degree programme (or a Bachelor’s degree programme with a foundation year) at Bangor University and are listing Bangor as your first choice via UCAS.
  • Your qualification: You have A-levels or an equivalent British secondary school qualification (level 3).
  • Residence: You live in the United Kingdom or have residence status in the United Kingdom for fee purposes.
  • Field of study: Any topic is fine.
  • Origin (for one of the two awards): One scholarship is open to everyone. The second is exclusively for applicants who were born in Wales and attended secondary school there.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form for the admission scholarships. For the start of studies on 2026, the application period begins on 8 October 2025 and ends on Friday, 30. January 2026. In February, you will then sit a written examination at your own school or university in a subject of your choice. You will be notified of the result by email in March.

How realistic are your chances?

The exam is the deciding factor, so performing well on the day of the exam is more important than a polished application. As only two scholarships are awarded under this name, competition is fierce, even though the version restricted to Wales narrows down the pool of eligible applicants. If no candidate is deemed good enough, the university may not award any scholarships at all.
