Bachelor of Medicine Ensio Hyvärinen Fund - Scholarship

Ensio Hyvärinen Fund activity scholarship

You will receive up to 2,000 EUR as a one-off payment from the University of Helsinki. This scholarship recognises your involvement in student organisations and committees, rather than your examination results. The amount is based on a points system that assesses the positions you have held, such as chairing or serving on the executive committee of a students’ association or a faculty committee. The more points you accumulate during your studies, the higher the payment will be. The money comes from the University of Helsinki’s funds, a pool of donations from which scholarships are awarded each year.

Who can apply

• University and subject: You study medicine at the University of Helsinki at bachelor level and hold a valid right to study in that programme.
• Activity points: You have at least 10 points in the scholarship’s points system. You receive these points for your involvement in student representative bodies, faculty councils or similar committees. The points are awarded for each calendar year in which you have held office, up to the end of last year.
• Only once: You have not yet received this scholarship. You can only receive it once.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying medicine at the University of Helsinki.
• Best timing: It’s worth applying in the spring of your sixth year of study, just before you graduate, when you’ve accumulated the most points.

How to apply

You should apply online via the University of Helsinki’s funding portal and attach your academic transcript. The application period runs from 14 January to 6 February 2026 and closes at 23:59. Decisions will be made by the end of April, and each applicant will be informed personally of the outcome.
