About this scholarship

Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Foundation grant

You receive a one-off grant of 1,500 EUR to 5,000 EUR, paid once rather than monthly. The exact amount depends on how many people apply and how far along you are in your studies. The School of Engineering at Aalto University in Finland manages the grant from a memorial fund. It supports students and young engineers in bridge engineering, or in structural engineering and building physics.

Who can apply

  • University: You study at the School of Engineering of Aalto University, or recently graduated from it.
  • Level: You are a Master's student, a doctoral (PhD) student, or you recently finished your Master's or doctoral degree there.
  • Field: Your studies focus on bridge engineering, or on structural engineering and building physics.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Grades: Your academic results count in the assessment, so good grades help.

How to apply

Send a short free-form application in English by email to the grant committee at the Department of Civil Engineering. State your specialisation, your academic results, your contact details, and the title and supervisor of your thesis. Attach a transcript or degree certificate. You can apply each year from the start of December to the end of January. Results come out in March.
