About this scholarship

Kyösti Haataja grant

You will receive up to 100,000 EUR in total to investigate the causes and consequences of climate change or the loss of biodiversity. The funding is usually awarded as a one-off project grant to a research group. It may also be divided amongst several groups or paid out as individual grants to individual researchers. The grants are valid for one year at a time. Postdoctoral researchers and PhD students who are making good progress may receive funding over several years. The funding is provided by the Kyösti Haataja Foundation, which was established in 1951 and is managed by the OP Financial Group.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You must hold at least a Master’s degree.
  • Research topic: Your work focuses on climate change or the loss of biodiversity, as well as their causes and effects. You examine these topics from an economic, social science or legal perspective, rather than from a natural science perspective.
  • Who counts: You can apply as a research group or as an individual researcher at any stage of your career, for example as a PhD student, postdoctoral researcher or professor on research leave.
  • No other grant for the same work: You may not receive any further funding for the same purpose and must disclose all funding you have received.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Not funded: Degree programmes at Master’s level or below, research projects already completed, and the printing or publication of completed works.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online application system during the annual call for applications, which runs from the beginning of January until 6 February at 23:59. You must submit a research proposal (PDF, max. 4 pages) and a CV (max. 3 pages). The Foundation’s Executive Board will make its decision at its annual meeting before the end of March and will notify the grant holders in writing.
