About this scholarship

Engineers' Travel Grant (Aalto University)

You will receive a one-off travel allowance of 1,000 to 2,000 EUR for a study trip abroad, for example to work at a foreign university or research institute. The money comes from a fund totalling 5,600 EUR per call for applications, which is administered by Aalto University in Finland; consequently, only a small number of grants are awarded in each call. A separate portion of the same fund awards an annual grant to a mechanical engineer specialising in thermal engineering or sheet metal working, or to a chemist specialising in process engineering. This portion is advertised separately.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are a PhD student at Aalto University.
  • Field of study: You are studying chemical engineering, energy engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • Where you go: The trip is abroad, not within Finland. You will need a letter of acceptance from the host university or research institute.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Financial need: Your financial needs will be taken into account when the decision is made.
  • Your plan: You must submit a clear research and travel plan. If you have a supervisor, please also include their statement. Both will be taken into account in the decision.

How to apply

You must apply by 18 May using the online form on the Aalto website, submitting a short, freely worded application of between 1 and 2 pages. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering will make the decision on the basis of a recommendation from the funding committee.
