About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a personal research grant of 24,000 EUR for 12 months or 28,000 euros, depending on whether you have already completed your PhD. You can receive this grant for up to 3 years. In addition, you will receive 1,500 euros per year towards research and travel expenses. You may also apply for an administrative allowance of 1,750 euros per year if your institution officially supports your project.
If your project is of shorter duration, you may apply for a partial grant of 2,000 EUR per month (2,333 EUR if you hold a PhD) for 4 to 11 months, as well as 125 EUR per month to cover costs.
There are also smaller grants available: up to 5,000 EUR for the publication of research findings, as well as a travel grant to present your work if you are giving a talk or presenting a poster (up to 950 EUR outside Europe, up to 500 EUR within Europe, up to 400 EUR in the Nordic and Baltic countries). You can also receive 750 EUR for the printing, publication or linguistic editing of your completed research work. Educational grants (funding) are available to people working or studying in the food sector, including a thesis grant for recent graduates.
The funding comes from the Association of Agricultural Scientists (Agronomiliitto) and the foundations working in partnership with it, as part of the joint initiative ‘Suomi kasvaa ruoasta’ (‘Finland grows through food’).
Who can apply
- Who you are: You are an individual researcher or scientist, not an organisation. Research institutions and research groups may also apply, but this is only a secondary option.
- Field of study: You work in the field of food sciences: agriculture, food or nutrition. The full research grants for individual research projects are intended exclusively for agricultural sciences. Other areas of the food industry may apply for the other types of funding.
- Quality of your work: The scientific calibre of your project is the decisive factor in determining who receives funding.
- Membership: Membership of Agronomiliitto will be an advantage for your application – the longer you have been a member, the better. This is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Using the money: You must start using a grant within 1 year of the award and finish within 3 years. If you leave an earlier grant unused, it weakens a later application.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted in April via the online system at agronomiliitto.apurahat.net. The application deadline is 30 April at 23:59. For the scholarship for recent graduates, there is a rolling application window from 1 May to 31 October. A joint academic committee reviews the applications, and the boards of the foundations make the final decisions. Please ensure that anyone writing a letter of recommendation for you also submits it before the deadline.
