Meurthe-et-Moselle department loan for studies

You get an interest-free loan of up to 1,500 EUR, which you pay back over three years. It is a loan, not a grant: you pay no interest, but you do repay it. It comes from the Conseil Départemental de Meurthe-et-Moselle, the local authority for that part of north-eastern France. It helps you cover one specific step in your studies, such as a placement abroad or a business project.

Who can apply

• Study stage: You are in the first year of a Master’s degree programme (Master’s 1), in your final year of study, or wish to undertake professional development.
• What it funds: You are undertaking an internship or a study placement abroad, or you are setting up or taking over a business whilst you are studying.
• Where you study: You study at a higher education institution in Meurthe-et-Moselle.
• Nationality or residence: You are a French national, or your parents have been living in France for more than two years.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

You should submit your application directly to the Department of Economic and Student Affairs. The department’s standing committee reviews each application and makes the decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This loan is very specifically targeted: you must be studying in Meurthe-et-Moselle and meet one of the specified criteria, such as a period of study abroad or a business start-up project. This means that there is very little competition for it. If you clearly meet the criteria, your chances are good. Bear in mind that this is a loan which you must repay within three years, not a grant.
