About this scholarship
GENES-CREST Doctoral Contracts
You will receive a gross salary of about 2,369 EUR per month for three years to write a doctoral thesis in economics, statistics, finance or sociology. This is a paid PhD contract, not a supplementary scholarship, and it includes 64 hours of teaching over a period of three years. Funding is provided by GENES (Groupe des Écoles Nationales d’Économie et de Statistique). You will carry out your research at CREST, the Centre for Economic and Statistical Research, in Paris (at ENSAE) or in Rennes (at ENSAI).
Who can apply
- Level: You would like to start or complete a PhD and enrol on the CREST PhD programme.
- Field: Your research falls within one of the following four fields: economics, finance and actuarial science, statistics or quantitative sociology.
- Where you go: You will be studying for your PhD in France, either in Paris under the supervision of an ENSAE professor or in Rennes under the supervision of an ENSAI professor.
- Supervision: A supervisor has already been appointed for your project.
- Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
- Background: Open to all. Former students of ENSAE and ENSAI are particularly encouraged to apply.
How to apply
To apply to CREST, you will need to submit a research proposal, a personal statement, your CV, academic transcripts from the last three years, and letters of reference, including one from your supervisor. The application deadline is 16 May. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview.
How realistic are your chances?
As this is a paid PhD position in specific research areas, you will need a concrete, well-supervised research project – not just good grades. CREST awards only a limited number of these contracts each year. Applicants who have already found a supervisor and clearly fit into one of the four areas stand out in particular. If your field of specialism is a precise match and you can back up your project with convincing references, your prospects are good.
