About this scholarship

ARTuR Research Fellowships

You will receive a research grant of 20,000 EUR for one year to carry out a project on kidney tumours. This may involve laboratory research (basic research) or clinical research involving patients. The funding comes from A.R.Tu.R., a French patient organisation founded in 2005 that supports research into kidney cancer. Two to four grants are awarded per cycle, some in collaboration with the French Urological Society (AFU). The grant is aimed at early-career researchers.

Who can apply

  • Age: You are under 40.
  • Qualification: You are a junior doctor at a hospital (internal medicine department) or hold a PhD, a DEA or a Master’s degree.
  • Research topic: Your project focuses on kidney tumours, either in the field of basic research or clinical research.
  • Lab backing: A research supervisor has approved your project, and a host laboratory has agreed to take you on.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You should submit your CV, a project description, details of the host laboratory, a letter of recommendation from your research supervisor, and your five most important publications. ARTuR’s Scientific Advisory Board reviews the applications. The award winners are announced at the association’s biennial scientific congress.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a very narrowly defined research grant. It funds research exclusively into kidney tumours, is open only to researchers under the age of 40, and awards just a handful of grants per funding round. As a result, the field of research remains small, but the applicants are highly specialised experts, so a compelling project and a credible host laboratory are the most important factors. If your work is closely linked to kidney cancer research and your supervisor supports you, your prospects are good.
