About this scholarship

What you get

Whilst studying or undertaking a compulsory work placement abroad, you will receive a supplement of 400 EUR per month in addition to your regular means-tested grant from France. You may receive this supplement for a single period of up to 10 consecutive months. Throughout your degree programme, you can apply for the grant for a total of 10 months, which you can split across several periods of study abroad. Your home university decides how many monthly payments you will receive. The funds come from the French Ministry of Higher Education and are paid out via your university.

Who can apply

  • Existing grant: You are already receiving the French means-tested grant (bourse sur critères sociaux) or the annual special allowance. This grant is intended to supplement that.
  • Where you go: Your time abroad is part of your degree programme, whether as part of an exchange programme or a compulsory international work placement. Erasmus+ students may also be eligible to take part, subject to certain conditions.
  • Length of stay: Your stay abroad will last at least 1 months.
  • Your degree: You are aiming to obtain a recognised French qualification at national or university level under the remit of the Ministry of Higher Education.
  • Nationality: You are French.
  • Field of study: Any subject.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the International Office (Service des relations internationales) at your own university. Please enclose your study or work placement plan for your stay abroad. There is no nationwide application deadline. Each university sets its own deadlines; you should therefore check with the International Office well in advance of your planned departure. The university selects students based on the quality of the project and how well it aligns with the institution’s international priorities.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed exclusively at students who are already receiving the means-tested French scholarship and who are studying abroad as part of their degree; the pool of eligible candidates is therefore already small. Each university has a fixed annual quota and selects scholarship recipients from among its own applicants. The level of competition depends on your university, not on the country as a whole. If you meet the eligibility criteria, submit a solid study or work placement plan and apply early, your chances are good.
