Jean Monnet University Merit Scholarship

You will receive one-time payment of up to 5,000 EUR to support your studies and a personal or professional project you wish to undertake. A panel of judges will determine the exact amount based on your project, so this may be less than 5,000 EUR. You will receive 80% as soon as you have been selected, and the remaining 20% after you have submitted a brief report on your activities. Winners will also be admitted to the Foundation’s alumni network, the ‘Club de la Fondation’, which brings together all scholarship holders and award winners. The funding is provided by the Foundation of Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne, France, which promotes excellence and equal opportunities.

Who can apply

• University: You are a full-time student at Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne. Students on a dual study programme (part-time study, part-time paid work) are also eligible to apply.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities welcome.
• Your project: You are submitting a personal or professional project and will cover the costs yourself. It should be in line with the Foundation’s objectives regarding performance and equal opportunities.
• Not for working adults: You cannot apply if you already hold a post outside a dual study programme, if you are otherwise eligible for funding for vocational training, or if you are an adult returning to work.
• One award at a time: You cannot apply for both the Foundation’s ‘Prix d’Excellence’ and its international mobility grant at the same time.

How to apply

Please submit your application to the Foundation by email or post. Please enclose two letters of reference and a two-page description of your project. Shortlisted candidates will then present their project in person to a panel and answer their questions.

How realistic are your chances?

Only students from a single university are eligible to apply, which keeps the pool of applicants small. The award is not based solely on academic grades: a jury assesses how compelling your project is and to what extent it aligns with the foundation’s values. If you are studying at Jean Monnet University and can present a clear, well-thought-out project, your chances are good. A compelling oral presentation is what sets the shortlisted candidates apart.
