Mayenne allowance for study abroad

You will receive a one-off payment of 600 EUR for a study visit or work placement in Europe, or 1,000 EUR for a stay outside Europe. Your stay must be of a minimum duration: at least 8 weeks for a compulsory work placement or at least 12 weeks for a study placement. The funding comes from the Conseil départemental de la Mayenne, the local authority for the Mayenne department in France. You can receive this grant up to twice during your studies, once per academic year. You can also combine it with the department’s ‘Prêt d’honneur’, a low-interest loan for students.

Who can apply

• Where your parents live: Your parents live in the department of Mayenne (department 53, France).
• Study level: You are a student and are in at least your second year of study.
• Where you go: You are undertaking a compulsory work placement (at least 8 weeks) or a study visit (at least 12 weeks) abroad.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Financial need: Your parents’ income must be below a specified threshold. For 2025/2026, the limit ranges from 45,000 EUR for a family with one dependent child up to 65,000 EUR for a family with five children, based on the most recent tax assessment. It increases by 10% for each additional child in higher education, starting from the second child.

How to apply

You can apply for this online via the ‘Démarches simplifiées’ platform, which can be accessed via the Ministry’s website. The forms will be available from September. Submit your application for the year 2025/2026 by 1 June 2026, but no later than 2 months before the planned end of your stay. The Ministry’s committee reviews applications on a monthly basis from October onwards.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this grant are quite strict: your parents must live in Mayenne, you must be studying at university, and your family’s income must not exceed the upper limit. This means that the number of people eligible for the grant is small; so, if you clearly meet these conditions, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply early, as applications are assessed on a monthly basis from October onwards.
