Paris research grant on antisemitism and xenophobia (Prix Gil Taïeb)

You will receive 10,000 EUR to work for one year on a research project focusing on xenophobia and anti-Semitism in all their forms – such as racism, discrimination or prejudice against the Roma. The amount will be paid in two instalments: an initial payment once the selection panel has chosen you, and the remainder after you have submitted your final report. The City of Paris has been funding this research since 2006 to promote understanding of these issues and to combat them. Each year, it awards two grants, one to a French applicant and one to an applicant from abroad, totalling 20,000 EUR. Since 2024, one of the grants has been named after Gil Taïeb, in honour of the late founder of the ‘Onze Bouge’ festival.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a bachelor’s degree (Licence) and have completed at least the first year of a master’s programme (Master I), or hold an equivalent qualification.
• Where you study: You are enrolled at a higher education institution or research organisation in the Paris academic region (Académie de Paris). If you are applying from abroad, you must first be accepted by such an institution.
• Field of study: All disciplines are welcome, for example social psychology, sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, history, geography or education.
• Age: You are under 40 on 1 January of the year you apply.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. One scholarship will be awarded to a French applicant and the other to an applicant from abroad.
• Language: Please complete your application in French.
• Topic focus: Research projects with a clear link to Paris are preferred, but are not a prerequisite.

How to apply

Submit your project via the City of Paris’s online form by Friday, 5 June 2026, at 12:00 midday. A jury comprising four members of the Conseil de Paris and six academic experts will assess the projects and meet in the autumn to select the winners.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is narrow: only two are awarded each year, the topic is specific, and you must be enrolled in the Paris academic region and under 40. That keeps the applicant pool small, but the two-per-year limit makes each place competitive. A strong, well-argued project with a clear Paris angle, written in good French and submitted before the deadline, gives a well-matched applicant real prospects.
