About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive up to 42,000 EUR to fund the first year of your PhD studies in the field of transplantation research. The funds will be paid to your university, which will employ you on a fixed-term contract and use the money to pay your salary. The scholarship is provided by the Société Francophone de Transplantation (SFT), a scientific society for organ and tissue transplantation in France and other French-speaking countries.
Eligibility
- Level: You are studying for a PhD in the natural sciences (thèse de sciences).
- Research topic: Your project focuses on organ or tissue transplants, for example in the fields of immunology, surgery or clinical transplant medicine.
- Membership: You are an SFT member and have paid your membership fees on time. Only members may apply.
- University contract: Your university is offering you a fixed-term contract so that the funding can be paid out.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Rest of the PhD funded: In the first year of your PhD, your laboratory must provide written confirmation that it will cover the costs for the remaining three years. If you are already in your second or third year, you must provide evidence that funding for the remainder of the programme has already been secured.
- No double funding: You cannot combine this scholarship with any other scholarship. Should you receive further funding, you must choose one of them and inform the SFT accordingly.
How to apply
Please send your application by post to the SFT Secretariat. The call for applications opens around March or April, and the deadline for applications is 3 May. A panel of experts from the fields of transplant medicine, nephrology, cardiology, immunology and related disciplines will assess the projects. The scholarship will be awarded at the SFT Annual Congress.
How realistic are your chances?
This award has very strict eligibility criteria. You must be a member of the SFT, be working on a topic in the field of transplant medicine, and have access to a laboratory that will fund the remainder of your PhD. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these requirements and submit a compelling, well-founded project proposal, your chances are good.
