PEA scholarship for French students of German

You will have the opportunity to spend a semester (from 1 September to 31 January) at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany. The programme is called ‘Formation d'Experts Franco-Allemands’ (PEA). It is run by the DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, in collaboration with the University of Bochum. Your modules are based on the French curriculum for the second year of the Licence degree. LLCER students take courses in translation, German grammar and text editing, literature and regional studies. LEA students take courses in German, English, economics and law. You will also take part in excursions to the Ruhr region and a planned trip to Berlin. German supervisors will look after you on site and help you find accommodation. You will pay the rent yourself (approximately 330 to 380 EUR per month). Travel costs and insurance are not covered.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at a university in France.
• Field of study: You are in your second year (L2) of the LLCER German degree programme (including dual degree programmes such as German and English, German and History, or German and Communication) or the LEA German and English degree programme.
• Progress: You have successfully completed the entire first year of your degree (L1) in one of these subjects, as confirmed in the examination session 2026.
• Language: No language test is required.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled on the relevant degree programme at a French higher education institution.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the DAAD application portal between 2 February and 17 March 2026 (application deadline 23:59). Late applications will not be considered, so please submit your application well in advance. You will also need a confidential letter of recommendation from your current German teacher, which must be sent directly to the DAAD in France. A selection panel will then decide who is to be offered a place.

How realistic are your chances?

This award has very strict eligibility criteria: only French L2 students on the LLCER German or LEA German-English degree programmes who have successfully completed their first year of study are eligible to apply, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you clearly fit this profile and apply early with a compelling personal statement and a teacher’s reference, your chances are good. Because of the narrow scope, you will be competing against far fewer applicants than you would for an open scholarship.
