PROCOPE Mobility Grants

You will receive a monthly lump-sum grant for a research stay of between one and three months at a French laboratory or research institute: 1,850 EUR per month if you are a PhD student, and 2,100 EUR per month for other early-career researchers such as postdoctoral researchers. The grant covers your travel and living expenses during your stay. Your stay must begin between 18 May and 31 December 2026. The programme is run by the Science and Technology Office of the French Embassy in Germany with the aim of strengthening Franco-German research ties. Please note that, depending on the number of applicants, only a limited number of three-month grants are available.

Who can apply

• Where you work: You work at a German university or research institute.
• Career stage: You are a PhD student, postdoctoral researcher or early-career researcher, and no more than 5 years have passed since you completed your PhD. Parental leave and periods of sick leave are not taken into account when calculating these 5 years.
• Field of study: All research areas, including the humanities and social sciences.
• Where you go: You will be travelling to a laboratory or research institute in France. An additional travel allowance is granted for the French overseas territories.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, with the exception of French nationals and persons with dual nationality who hold French nationality.

How to apply

You apply online via the LYYTI platform and submit all documents as a single PDF file. The application deadline is 26 January (23:59 Paris time). A selection panel will assess the projects on the basis of their academic quality, the added value of the stay for your research as a whole, and its contribution to Franco-German cooperation. The results will be announced in mid-April.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is quite narrowly defined. You must already be working at a German research institution, have completed your PhD no more than five years ago, and be able to demonstrate that you have been accepted by a host laboratory in France. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you meet these criteria and can present a compelling project proposal, your chances are good. Where applicants have the same score, particular consideration will be given to projects that relate to France’s priorities 2030, are carried out at institutions in eastern Germany, or are submitted by applicants who have little or no other funding available.
