What the grant funds

These are grants from the Spanish Ministry of Culture, designed to support art galleries in promoting Spanish contemporary art. In the 2025 round, the selected projects shared a total of 300,000 EUR. The amount is calculated on a per-project basis, so there is no fixed monthly rate. It covers two areas: a gallery’s participation in international contemporary art fairs in Spain, and the organisation of a year-round gallery programme. The funded activities may last for around one year.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You run an art gallery, either as an individual or as a business. This round is aimed at galleries, not individual artists.
• Where you are based: Your company must be tax-resident in Spain.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. The key requirement is that you are resident in Spain and liable for tax there – not the nationality stated in your passport.
• What you do with it: They support Spanish artists or artists based in Spain, either through participation in international art fairs in Spain or as part of their annual programme.
• Who cannot apply: Public bodies and charitable organisations are exempt from this.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Ministry of Culture’s electronic register. The application window is short. It opens every year following the publication of the call for applications in the Spanish Official State Gazette (BOE); in 2025, it ran until 28 July. A committee assesses the projects and decides on the allocation of funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant scheme is very narrowly defined: only galleries registered for tax in Spain that support Spanish artists or artists based in Spain are eligible, meaning the pool of applicants is small. If you clearly fit this profile and submit a compelling project with genuine national or international reach, your chances are good. The budget is fixed and is allocated on a competitive basis; therefore, a well-reasoned application with a cost-effective budget is crucial. It is also advantageous to apply as soon as the application period opens.
