About this scholarship
Internships in Museology at the MARQ, Alicante
You will receive 800 EUR gross per month for up to 12 months: a 6-month internship at the Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Alicante (MARQ), the archaeological museum run by the Province of Alicante, as well as a possible extension of 6 months, provided you apply for this and funding is available. You will work on genuine museum tasks: recording and cataloguing objects, conservation, setting up exhibitions and taking part in the museum’s own archaeological excavations. The Diputación Provincial de Alicante (the provincial government) organises and funds the programme and is offering 5 places in the current intake.
Who can apply
- Degree: You hold a bachelor’s degree (Grado) in History, Geography and History, Art History or Archaeology.
- How recent: You completed your degree no more than 5 years ago.
- Nationality: You are a Spanish national. Other EU citizens may also apply for civil service posts in accordance with Spanish regulations.
- Residence: You live in the province of Alicante. If your degree programme is not offered at any of the universities there, it is sufficient for you to have been registered as a resident in this province before starting your studies.
- No repeat: You have not yet completed this MARQ work placement.
- No parallel funding: You will not receive any further public or private funding during the placement, nor will you undertake any paid work.
How to apply
You can apply online via the Diputacin’s electronic portal or in person at its office in Alicante. The application deadline for the current round was 3 October. A panel will assess you on the basis of your grades, additional qualifications and relevant professional experience, and may also conduct a practical test or an interview.
How realistic are your chances?
This work placement is very specific. You must hold a specific degree in history or archaeology, have completed your degree within the last five years, and live in the province of Alicante. This means that the pool of applicants is small. If you clearly meet these requirements, have good grades and can demonstrate relevant academic subjects or excavation experience, your chances of securing one of the five places are good.
