Scholarships for Courses at the Permanent Open Education School

You will receive a discount of 75% of the public tuition fee on every course offered by the ‘Aula Permanente de Formación Abierta’ (APFA) at the University of Granada, a study programme for people aged 50 and over. For the period from 2025 to 2026, the University will award a total of 11,900 EUR to successful applicants. The exact amount depends on your tuition fees and the number of recipients. The discount does not apply to specific optional modules or excursions. The grant is awarded by the University of Granada and is intended to enable people on lower incomes to undertake higher education.

Who can apply

• Age: You are 50 or over. No prior qualification is needed.
• Enrolment: You are enrolled on an APFA degree programme for the current academic year, either at the Granada campus or at one of the satellite campuses (Baza, Guadix, Motril, Ceuta or Melilla).
• Income: You are on a low income. The scholarship is aimed at people with limited financial means; therefore, households on a lower income will be given priority in the selection process.
• Field of study: Any APFA programme is permitted.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the University of Granada’s Virtual Office under the ‘APFA Scholarships’ section. For the 2025–2026 round, applications were open from 9 to 29 April. Applicants are assessed against one another, so places are highly sought-after.

How realistic are your chances?

The target group is small: you must be at least 50 years old, be registered with the APFA and be on a low income. The funding pool is limited and is divided amongst the recipients, so the discount may be smaller if a large number of people qualify. If you clearly meet the age requirement, can prove you are on a low income and apply by the deadline, your chances are good.
