Grants for German Language Courses (Mainz Grants)

You get a fully funded place on a German summer language course at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, so attending costs you nothing. The University of Valencia pays your return flight. Mainz covers your accommodation, the course fee and a public transport ticket. The 2026 course runs from 10 to 28 August. There are 3 grants, funded jointly by the University of Valencia and the University of Mainz.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled on the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Modern Languages and Literature’ at the University of Valencia. From 2026 onwards, students on the international dual-degree programme in Physics may also apply.
• German level: You must have a knowledge of German at level B1, as evidenced by a recognised certificate. Certificates issued by the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication at the University of Valencia are recognised.
• Grades: Selection is based on your academic average, so good marks are an advantage.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at the University of Valencia.

How to apply

You apply online through the University of Valencia's ENTREU system. Attach your application form and German certificate. For 2026 the window is 5 to 18 March. Applicants are ranked by their academic average, and the International Relations Service publishes the results.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. Only students on one or two specific degree programmes at a single university who have taken German as B1 may apply for just 3 places. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria, have a strong academic record and apply within the short application window in March, your chances are good.
