University of Valencia - University of Valencia Travel Bursaries for Development Cooperation

What you get

You will receive a travel grant of around 1,375 EUR for a period of up to 3 months as part of a voluntary service or work placement within a development cooperation project abroad. The grant covers travel and living expenses: flights, accommodation, daily expenses and health insurance. You will receive the amount in two instalments: 50% on your arrival and 50% after submitting your final report. The grant is provided by the Office for International Relations and Cooperation (SEDI) at the University of Valencia.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Valencia.
• Degree level: You are a Bachelor’s student.
• What you do abroad: You are taking part in a voluntary placement or work placement as part of a cooperation project run by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) or a similar organisation. A trip that you organise yourself does not count.
• Where you go: A low-income country listed in the current cooperation plans, or another country with which the University of Valencia already cooperates.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality, provided you are enrolled at the University of Valencia.

How to apply

You apply through the University of Valencia's online registry. Choose the International Relations and Cooperation Service and the "Cooperation volunteering" process. The deadline is 9 September. Selection is based on the merits you document.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is open exclusively to students at the University of Valencia who have arranged a specific placement as part of a cooperation project abroad. The pool of applicants is small and is limited to those who are already involved in development cooperation. If you have a confirmed placement with a non-governmental organisation in an eligible country and can demonstrate your qualifications, your chances are good. The biggest hurdle is organising the host project well in advance, not the competition itself.
