Congress of Deputies (Spain) - Traineeships for Graduates in Library and Archival Sciences

What you get

You will be undertaking a paid placement as a 1,500 EUR gross per month for 12 months at the Congreso de los Diputados, the lower house of the Spanish Parliament. You will be working in the Documentation, Library and Archives Department. You will gain practical experience in the areas of cataloguing, library operations and archival description. Social security is included. The placement runs for a fixed period (the current intake runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027) and cannot be extended. Please note that this is not a job: you do not have an employment contract with the Parliament and cannot combine the placement with another grant, paid work or unemployment benefit.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a Master’s degree in social sciences, law or the humanities, or a Bachelor’s degree plus at least 60 ECTS credits in a relevant university degree programme. At least one of your qualifications must have been obtained from 2020 to 2021 and be directly related to archives, libraries or documentation.
• Field: Your degree programme focuses on library science, archival science or documentation science.
• Grades: Your average mark during your degree is at least 7.0 on the Spanish 0–10 scale.
• Nationality: You are a national of Spain, an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. If you are from a country outside the EU, you must be lawfully resident in Spain.
• Spanish: If Spanish is not your first language, you will need a certificate at level C1 or above.
• No prior grant: You have never previously completed one of these Congreso work placements. You may still apply if, for reasons beyond your control, you completed it for less than six months.
• Reserved place: One of the 14 training places is reserved for applicants with a recognised disability of 33% or more.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Congreso registration form. The deadline for applications is 12 November. A panel of judges will assess the applications using a points-based system. You may be invited to sit an oral examination or attend an interview to assess your knowledge.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a highly selective scholarship. With only 14 places available, a specific field of study, a required grade point average of 7.0 and Spanish language skills at level C1, the pool of eligible applicants is significantly restricted. If you clearly meet these requirements and can demonstrate a sound, relevant educational background, your prospects are good. Selection is based on a points system, so additional academic achievements, languages and relevant experience will directly improve your ranking.
