University College Cork - The Staf Gebruers Memorial Prize in Music

What you get

You will receive a one-off award of 3,000 EUR to cover the costs of postgraduate music studies in the coming academic year. You may use this award towards a Master’s programme or other postgraduate studies at University College Cork (UCC) or another institution. Any specialisation within music studies is eligible: research, composition or performance. UCC awards the prize once a year, funded by private sponsors, in memory of Staf Gebruers (1902-1970), who shaped musical life in Cobh and Ireland for almost fifty years.

Who can apply

• Where you study now: You are currently a student at UCC in Cork.
• Study phase: You are in the final year of your Bachelor’s degree.
• Subject: Music is a main subject in your degree. This covers fourth-year Music, third-year Arts with Music as a joint, major or single honours subject, and third-year Drama and Theatre Studies with Music as a joint honours subject.
• Your plans: You are planning to start a postgraduate music degree next year. You do not yet need a confirmed place on a course. It is sufficient to state which courses you are applying for.

How to apply

You get the application form from the UCC Music Department and send it to the department office or by email to its head. In your application, describe your plans for postgraduate study and how the money would help. The deadline is 20 June each year. Awards are competitive and judged on the strength of your plan and your current UCC exam results. An interview may also be part of the process. The winner is announced in early July.
