About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a support package tailored to your sporting activities and your studies. It includes a financial grant determined on an individual basis, which is why no fixed amount is published. In addition, you will receive coaching, strength and conditioning training, medical and physiotherapy support, sports nutrition advice, sports psychology support, mentoring (individual support from an experienced adviser), performance planning, career development support and a gym membership. The funding runs for a period of up to 36 months. The University of Galway (formerly NUI Galway) runs the programme to enable talented athletes to train to the highest level in their sport whilst continuing their studies.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are starting your degree at the University of Galway in 2026/27, are already studying there, are transferring there, or are completing a Master’s degree programme involving lectures there.
  • Your sport: There is a national governing body for your sport, which is recognised by Sport Ireland, the national sports authority.
  • Your level: You compete at a high level, for example as a national champion or at international level in your sport.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Nationality: Any nationality, provided you are studying at the University of Galway.

How to apply
