About this scholarship

UCD Symphony Orchestra Scholarship

In your first year as a scholarship holder with the UCD Symphony Orchestra, you will receive 500 EUR. If you pass the audition again in subsequent years, the amount will increase to 1,000 EUR per year; there is no fixed limit on how many times you can renew the scholarship. As well as the money, you’ll perform with the orchestra at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, at campus events and on tours across Europe, including Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden. University College Dublin funds the scholarships and awards up to 20 each year.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying at University College Dublin or are applying for a place there this academic year.
  • The orchestra: You are a member of the UCD Symphony Orchestra or would like to join the orchestra.
  • Instrument and subject: Any instrument counts. Your course, subject and degree level do not matter.
  • Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
  • Playing ability: Places are awarded to the best performers at the audition. Scholarship holders are expected to help shape the group and to take part occasionally in open days and public events.

How to apply

Complete the orchestra’s online form and indicate that you would like to be considered for a scholarship. Auditions take place every September. If you are already studying at UCD, you can apply at any time. If you intend to commence your studies at UCD, please apply during the preceding academic year. As soon as you are offered a place, you will be given a date for the audition in September.
