About this scholarship

Colm Ó hEocha Bursary

You will receive the 3,000 EUR as a one-off award for one academic year. The University of Galway awards this prize each year to a student who commences a full-time Master’s degree programme taught in Irish. It was established in honour of Dr Colm Ó hEocha, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University. You may receive this award alongside other funding, scholarships or grants, so it will not reduce your other sources of financial support.

Who can apply

  • Your previous degree: You completed your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Galway.
  • What you study next: You have registered for a taught Master's at the University of Galway that is taught through Irish. The Dean of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies sets the list of qualifying programmes each year.
  • Grades: You have the highest overall percentage of all eligible applicants on your Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Galway.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

There is no application form. Once you have enrolled on an eligible Master’s programme taught in Irish, the scholarship will be awarded automatically on the basis of your Bachelor’s degree marks. Applications are processed by the secretariat of the ‘MA in Language Studies’ (MA sa Léann Teanga) programme at the University of Galway.
