University College Cork - College of Medicine and Health Scholarship

What you get

You will receive a medal and a parchment, which will be presented to you at a College awards ceremony. This recognises outstanding examination results. As this is not a cash prize, you will still be required to pay your tuition fees, enrolment fees and flat-rate charges. Each year, up to 38 medals are awarded at the College of Medicine and Health at University College Cork (UCC). A separate award, the title of ‘College Scholar’, is given to every student at the College who completes an academic year with a ‘First Class Honours’ grade. This award does not involve any monetary prize either.

Who can apply

• University: You are a current UCC student in the College of Medicine and Health.
• Degree type: You are enrolled on a bachelor’s degree programme lasting at least four years. Diplomas, shorter degree programmes, distance-learning programmes and programmes where you spend only one year at UCC will not be taken into account.
• Field of study: Open to all medical and healthcare degree programmes at the college, including the ‘Graduate Entry to Medicine’ programme (with the awards covering the academic years 1, 2 and 3).
• Grades: You achieved the highest overall mark in your year group in last summer’s examinations, thereby attaining first-class honours. The awarding of a medal for a particular year is based on the previous year’s summer results.
• Timing and attempts: You passed the preceding year in the minimum time and reached the standard at your first attempt in the summer exams. An exception applies if the University Mitigation Committee let you sit in autumn.
• Nationality: All nationalities welcome.
• Ties: If two or more pupils achieve the highest score, each of them will receive the award.
