About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a one-off payment of 1,500 EUR for your first year of study at University of Galway (formerly NUI Galway). This amount is paid out exclusively for your first year of study and cannot be carried over to a subsequent academic year. The university awards it to the top-performing first-year student from County Mayo, based on their examination results.
Eligibility
- Where you're from: You are a student from County Mayo in Ireland.
- Level: You are starting the first year of a full-time Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Galway.
- Field of study: Every full-time bachelor’s degree programme counts.
- Grades: The ranking is based on the results of the ‘Leaving Certificate’, the Irish school-leaving examination. The six best recognised subjects are taken into account; these are marked according to a fixed marking scheme, with no bonus marks awarded.
- Enrolment: You must enrol by the official deadline and remain enrolled until at least 1 March of the relevant academic year.
- Other awards: You can apply unless you already hold another University of Galway or donor award of equal or higher value.
How to apply
No application is required. The scholarship is automatically awarded to the eligible pupil from County Mayo with the best grades, based on their Leaving Certificate results.
