About this award / prize

What you get

You receive a one-off prize of about 400 EUR from University College Cork (UCC), awarded through its College of Medicine and Health. The amount comes from an endowment fund, so it can shift up or down a little from year to year depending on investment returns. The prize honours Patrick F. Fitzpatrick, a former deputy chief medical officer in Cork who worked to control tuberculosis in the city.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are currently a medical student at University College Cork.
  • Your results: You came first in the ‘Epidemiology’ module on the topic of evidence-based healthcare in the third-year (summer) examination. The prize is awarded to the top student(s) in this module.
  • How long you have studied: You have been enrolled at UCC for at least two years prior to the examination date.
  • First attempt: You passed the exam in your third year of study and passed all your modules at the first attempt.
  • Standard reached: The University’s Academic Council considers that your result is good enough to justify the prize.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at UCC.

How to apply
