University College Cork - The Ethna Byrne Costigan Memorial Prize

The Ethna Byrne Costigan Memorial Prize

You will receive a cash prize of about 125 EUR to enable you to take part in a summer programme at an Italian university. The prize is awarded to the undergraduate student who achieves the highest mark in the Italian language examination in their second year of study at University College Cork (UCC). It is funded by a bequest from Ethna Byrne Costigan, a former UCC lecturer who played a key role in establishing the Italian programme in Cork. The prize is usually awarded once a year. In some years, it is not awarded because the small endowment does not generate sufficient income to cover the prize money.
