About this scholarship

What you get

TU Dublin pays back most of the cost of a one-week Irish-language summer course in the Gaeltacht, the Irish-speaking regions of Ireland. How much you get back depends on whether you are a student or staff:

  • Students: 90% of the course fee back, up to 250 EUR.
  • Staff: 80% of the course fee back, up to 200 EUR.

You pay the course provider yourself first and get the money back after the course. The award covers course fees only, not travel or accommodation. The money comes from Oifig na Gaeilge, the Irish Language Office of TU Dublin. You choose from a set list of approved providers in counties such as Donegal, Kerry, Galway, Meath and Waterford. Courses are open at any level, from beginner to fluent.

Who can apply

  • Link to TU Dublin: You are a current TU Dublin student or staff member.
  • Course level: Any level of Irish, from complete beginner upwards.
  • Nationality: All nationalities welcome.
  • Age: No age limit.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Staff only: Your line manager must approve your attendance beforehand. The time counts as recognised training.
