About this scholarship
What the Midwest Sports Scholarship gives you
You get a support package built around your sport and your studies, awarded by the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) at its Midwest campuses in Limerick City (Moylish and Clare Street), Clonmel, Ennis and Thurles. The TUS Sports Council decides the exact contents for each scholar, and the package can be fully or partly covered. Depending on your level, it may include direct funding, help with accommodation, academic support, coaching, sport psychology, injury management, a gym package, sport nutrition and coaching education. The award runs for one year. You can also ask the Sports Council for extra support on top.
There are three levels. Gold is for top-level athletes, such as GAA senior intercounty players, League of Ireland players, basketball Super League players, members of a provincial rugby academy, or current international athletes. Silver is for rising athletes one step below, for example AIL rugby, National League Division 1 basketball or minor/U20 GAA. Bronze is for club-level athletes who also contribute off the pitch through coaching, administration, fundraising or promotion.
Who can apply

- Enrolment: If you are a new student, you apply for a full-time TUS course through the CAO, Ireland's central system for undergraduate places.

- Grades: If you already study at TUS, you have passed your exams and are progressing well.
- Sporting level: You perform strongly in your sport and compete at the highest level open to you within TUS.

How to apply
Fill in the online application form on the TUS website. You give your sporting and personal details, your results over the last three years and your goals for the next four. You also need two referees, one sporting and one academic. The TUS Sports Council may shortlist you and invite you to an interview, and it makes the final decision.
