About this award / prize

Benefit

You get a medal and a parchment (printed certificate) naming you a Quercus College Scholar for one year. University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland awards it to the top students in each Business and Law degree programme and hands it out at a college award ceremony. This is an academic honour, not a cash payment. It brings no money, and you still pay your own tuition, registration and other fees.

Eligibility

  • University: You are a current UCC student in a Business or Law degree at the College of Business and Law.
  • Study year: You are entering second or third year. Second-year awards are based on your first-year summer exams, third-year awards on your second-year exams.
  • Grades: You normally need a First Class Honours result (or equivalent) and must be the top student in your programme.
  • Timing: You finished the previous year in the minimum time and passed on your first attempt in the spring or summer exams. The University Mitigation Committee can approve exceptions.
  • Programme type: You are on a full degree programme. Diploma-level, distance-learning and one-year-only programmes do not count.
  • Study history: You have never registered for a degree programme at another third-level college.
  • No repeats: You cannot win a scholarship you already held in an earlier year.

If you already hold another Quercus scholarship, you keep the title of Quercus College Scholar. The medal and parchment then pass to the next-ranked student.

How to apply

There is no separate application. The College Scholarship Committee decides the award automatically from your summer exam results. If two students tie, the one more active in university clubs and societies wins.
