About this award / prize

CeTAmb thesis prizes at the University of Brescia

You will win a one-off cash prize for a dissertation on the topic of environmental management and technology in resource-poor countries. Three prizes are awarded each year:

  • Best bachelor's thesis: 500 EUR
  • Best master's thesis: 1,000 EUR
  • Best doctoral thesis: 1,500 EUR

The bachelor's and master's prizes cover theses on "Environmental Management in Low-Resource Countries". The doctoral prize covers theses on "Appropriate Technologies for Low-Resource Countries for Sustainable Development". If too few strong entries come in, the committee can split a prize between several winners or move it to another category. Winners can also join an activity at one of the four Brescia foundations backing the prize, such as a summer school or project.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You must have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or five-year single-cycle degree, or hold a PhD, depending on the programme you are applying for.
  • Where you studied: Every university in Italy counts, not just the University of Brescia.
  • Thesis topic: Your dissertation focuses on environmental management or adapted technologies for resource-poor developing countries.
  • Timing: You defended your thesis in the qualifying window. For the 2025 cycle this runs from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. The key requirement is that you have obtained a degree from an Italian university.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the PICA/CINECA platform, which can be accessed via a link on the University of Brescia’s call for applications page. The deadline for applications for the 2025 cycle is 31 October 2025 at 13:00. A panel will then assess the final projects and select the winners.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is awarded on a highly selective basis. Your dissertation must relate to a specific field of study and have been defended within a set timeframe, meaning that only a small group of graduates are eligible. If your work genuinely relates to the environment or adaptive technology, the field of entrants is limited and your prospects are good. The prize recognises a well-researched, topic-specific thesis rather than a broad-ranging one.
