Piero Pizzamiglio scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of 6,000 EUR for one academic year, paid in a single instalment. This is awarded to an engineering student at the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano). The money comes from a donation by the company OLPI S.p.A. in memory of Piero Pizzamiglio, the founder of OLPI-Milano.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are enrolled on a three-year Bachelor’s degree programme (laurea triennale) at the Polytechnic University of Milan.
• Field of study: You are studying Materials and Nanotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering or Automation Engineering.
• Year of study: You must be in your third year of study by the application deadline.
• Credits and grades: You have at least 100 credit points (CFU) and a weighted average mark of at least 26 out of 30.
• Residence: You live in Italy.

How to apply

Apply online via the Politecnico’s student portal under the ‘Scholarships’ (Borse di studio) section by 12:00 Italian time on 30 September. There will be no interview. The university automatically compiles a ranking list of applicants by multiplying the weighted average mark by the number of credit points entered; the applicant with the highest score is awarded the place. In the event of a tie, the younger applicant is selected.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one student will be selected, and the decision is based solely on grades and credit points, not on a written application. As the scholarship is tied to four specific engineering degree programmes at a university, the pool of eligible candidates is small, but only the candidate with the highest ranking will win. If your weighted average mark and your number of credit points are among the best in your year group, your chances are good. Otherwise, the ranking formula makes it difficult to catch up.
