University of Bologna - Total exemption for enrolled in the first year of the Master of Science

What you get

For the first year of your Master’s degree (Laurea Magistrale) at the University of Bologna, you will pay no tuition fees. Instead of the full fees, you will pay just 157.04 EUR. This includes the stamp duty, insurance and regional tax. The exemption applies to the first year of your degree. The university grants this exemption on a merit-based basis, based on your Bachelor’s degree mark, without means testing.

Who can apply

• Where you studied: You obtained your Bachelor’s degree (Laurea Triennale) at the University of Bologna.
• What you enrol in: You are starting the first year of a Master’s degree programme (Laurea Magistrale) at the University of Bologna.
• Grades: You completed your degree with the top mark of 110/110.
• Timing: You completed your Bachelor’s degree in the academic year 2025/26 by 31 July 2026 (for healthcare degree programmes, by 30 November 2026) and within the standard period of study.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• Field of study: Open to all Master’s degree programmes.
• Other awards: This grant cannot be combined with other grants from the University of Bologna that are based solely on academic performance.

How to apply

No application is required. The exemption is granted automatically upon enrolment, without the need to complete a form or provide proof of income. Should the exemption not be granted automatically, please contact your Student Registry (Segreteria Studenti).

How realistic are your chances?

There is neither a selection process nor a fixed number of places. Any student who meets the requirements will be granted the exemption. The only real hurdle is the top mark of 110/110. If you have completed a Bologna Bachelor’s degree programme with the top mark and within the prescribed time limit, you are virtually guaranteed this benefit.
