Scholarships of the Fondazione Visconti di San Vito

You will receive a one-off scholarship of 1,033 EUR to fund your university studies in Italy. Each year, the foundation awards up to five of these scholarships to students from the province of Varese in Lombardy. It was established in 1998 in accordance with the will of Gabrio Visconti di San Vito, the last heir of the Visconti di San Vito family, and is based at the Castello di Somma Lombardo. The amount of the scholarship has varied from one call for applications to the next; please therefore check the current call for applications before relying on the amount stated.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a student at a university.
• Where you live: You live in the province of Varese in Lombardy. If you live in the town of Somma Lombardo, you have priority.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Grades: You have strong grades.
• Volunteering: You do voluntary work. That’s a genuine selection criterion, not just a bonus.
• Financial need: You need financial support to be able to afford your studies.

How to apply

The Foundation advertises the scholarship once a year as part of a public call for applications, which is published in conjunction with the town of Somma Lombardo. The deadline for applications is 31 May. The Foundation’s Board decides who will receive the scholarship. The winners are honoured during a ceremony at the Castello.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is highly selective. You must live in the province of Varese, be studying at a university, be involved in voluntary work and demonstrate financial need – which is why only a small number of people are eligible. A maximum of five scholarships are awarded each year, with residents of Somma Lombardo given priority, which further limits the pool of applicants. If you clearly meet these local criteria and can provide evidence of your voluntary work and financial need, your chances are good.
