About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a need-based grant (borsa di studio), a grant in the form of a cash payment, the amount of which is based on your family’s income. For 2026/2027, the minimum amount is approximately 267 EUR; the exact amount depends on your family’s income and the distance from your home to the campus, measured by the journey time on public transport. It is paid in two instalments and covers 12 months of your first year of study on a standard-duration Master’s programme at the University of Milan-Bicocca. In addition to the grant, you may be eligible for a room in a student hall of residence at a reduced rate, access to the canteen, and one-off hardship payments. There are additional allowances if you have a disability or are completing part of your studies abroad. This grant forms part of the Italian state student support scheme (Diritto allo Studio Universitario, DSU), which is administered here by the University of Milan-Bicocca.
Who can apply
- Degree: You are enrolled in the first year of a single-cycle Master’s degree programme (laurea magistrale a ciclo unico) at the University of Milan-Bicocca. These are five- or six-year degree programmes such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law or Architecture.
- Field of study: Any subject offered as a single-cycle master's degree.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. If you are from abroad, you must follow a separate procedure for providing proof of income, as described in the vacancy notice.
- Entry grade: You scored at least 70/100 in your school-leaving exam (voto di maturità), or you hold a university qualification.
- Financial need: Your family income must be below the official thresholds. For 2026/2027, your ISEE (the Italian measure of household income) must not exceed 26,516.70 EUR and your ISPE (the measure of household assets) must not exceed 57,645.03 EUR.
- No earlier degree: You do not yet hold a university degree, either from Italy or from abroad.
- On track: You are within the standard duration of study for your academic year and are not repeating a year (fuori corso).
- No double funding: You will not receive any other scholarship in the same academic year.
How to apply
Applications are made online via the Bicocca Student Finance Portal, which opens on 7 July. You can apply even before you are officially enrolled. Firstly, you will need a proof of income (ISEE universitario). The deadline for applying for the scholarship is 30 September. If you also wish to apply for a place in halls of residence, the deadline is 20 August. Selection is based on a public ranking list drawn up solely on the basis of income and academic records; there is no interview.
How realistic are your chances?
This is an income-based grant with set upper limits, rather than a selection process decided by a committee. If your ISEE score is below the upper limit and you meet the requirements regarding grades and enrolment, you are eligible on a purely mathematical basis. The main risk lies with the budget: places and funding may run out before all eligible applicants can be considered. You should therefore apply early within the application window and have your ISEE certificate ready in advance.
