About this scholarship

Illness-interruption fee exemption at the University of Macerata

If you are enrolled at the University of Macerata and have to interrupt your studies due to a serious, long-term illness, you will pay no enrolment fees for the period of your absence. The exemption covers the annual enrolment fee and the associated administrative charges. When you resume your studies, you will also be exempt from the fixed re-enrolment fee, which normally amounts to 200 EUR per academic year in which you were not enrolled. The same exemption applies if you have interrupted your studies due to military or civilian service, or due to maternity leave in the year of each child’s birth. You must continue to pay the online stamp duty and any other compulsory fees that are not covered.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of Macerata.
  • Reason for the break: You have had to interrupt your studies due to a serious and long-term illness, military or civilian service, or maternity leave.
  • Proof: You can provide evidence that the illness caused the interruption and made it impossible to study during that period, for example by providing a doctor’s certificate.
  • Field of study: All subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Exclusion: You are not eligible to enrol if you are applying for a degree programme at a level equivalent to or lower than that of the qualification you have already obtained.

How to apply

You must apply for this exemption; it is not granted automatically. Complete the fee exemption form available in the university’s forms section and submit it together with your supporting documentation. Upload it to your student portal at studenti.unimc.it or hand it in at your faculty’s Student Registry. Submit your application by the deadline for enrolment or renewal of enrolment; for this academic year, this is 31 October.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a selection process, but a right based on specific rules. If you are enrolled at the University of Macerata, have interrupted your studies due to a proven serious illness and are not transferring to a lower-level degree programme, the exemption applies. Your chances depend entirely on clear documentation; therefore, a well-reasoned medical certificate is crucial. Please submit this before the enrolment deadline.
