About this grant / loan
What the service monetisation gives you
If you have been awarded a scholarship from DSU Toscana (Borsa di studio e posto alloggio), under this option you will receive cash in lieu of the free meals in the canteen and accommodation in the halls of residence that are normally included with the scholarship. This is not a separate scholarship. It means that these benefits are converted into a cash payment for students who are unable to make use of them, for example if you are unable to access the canteen or halls of residence for health reasons. The provider is ARDSU, the regional agency for the right to education in Tuscany. Payment is made every three months, within 30 days of the end of the relevant quarter. The exact amounts in euros are specified in the call for applications for the relevant year.
Who can apply
- Grant status: You are already a recipient of the DSU-Toscana scholarship. Without this scholarship, you are not eligible for it.
- Your situation: One of the following applies to you: you have a disability of at least 66% or a recognised impairment; you have children under the age of 18; you are taking part in an international exchange programme such as Erasmus; you are undertaking a compulsory or academic placement that prevents you from making use of the services on offer; or you are studying in a town where there is no DSU canteen or hall of residence nearby (more than 2 km from the nearest canteen and with no public transport).
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Florence, the University of Pisa, the University of Siena or another higher education institution in Tuscany, such as an art academy or a conservatoire.
- Field of study: All subjects.
- Nationality: Any nationality is acceptable, provided you are a holder of the DSU-Toscana scholarship.
How to apply
You apply for this as part of your main application for a student grant via the ‘Sportello Studente’ online portal. For Bachelor’s and Master’s students, the application period runs from 20 July to 7 September 2026. For PhD students and students on specialisation programmes, it runs from 25 September to 16 November 2026. Depending on your circumstances, you should either tick the option for payment on the grant application form or submit a separate form via the portal.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not an award presented as part of a competition, but rather a supplement to a scholarship you have already been awarded; therefore, there is no separate competition. If you meet one of the above criteria and submit your application within the same deadlines as for your main scholarship, you will receive the supplement. The real challenge lies in securing the underlying DSU-Toscana study scholarship in the first place.
