About this award / prize

What the prize gives you

For the best Master’s thesis on a tax law topic, you will receive a one-off cash prize of 2,000 EUR as well as a 3-month unpaid work placement at the Umbria regional office of the Italian tax authority (Agenzia delle Entrate). This is a one-off award, not a monthly scholarship. The funds are provided by A.Di.S.U. dell’Umbria, the regional authority for student financial support. It awards the prize jointly with the tax authority in memory of Gennaro Esposito, a former regional director.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You have obtained a Master’s degree (laurea magistrale or magistrale a ciclo unico, a single-cycle Master’s degree programme).
  • University: You have completed your degree at the University of Perugia or at the University for Foreigners in Perugia.
  • Thesis topic: Your thesis covers a tax subject, such as corporate taxation, tax compliance and fighting tax evasion, tax litigation, digital tools in tax administration, tax ethics, or the OECD's anti-evasion strategies.
  • Field of study: Any degree programme and any degree qualification is suitable, provided your dissertation relates to one of the tax topics listed.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Financial need: Not required. Selection is based solely on the quality of your dissertation.

How to apply

Please send the application form, a printed copy and a digital copy of your thesis, together with a brief summary (maximum three pages), to A.Di.S.U. dell’Umbria in Perugia. You may send the documents by registered post or deliver them in person. The deadline is 15 June. A selection panel chaired by the Regional Director of the Tax Authority, comprising representatives from both organisations, will select the winner. Its decision is final.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize has very strict eligibility criteria. Your final dissertation must be a Master’s thesis on a specific tax-related topic, written at one of the two universities in Perugia. Consequently, the pool of eligible candidates is small and there are only a few applicants. If your thesis fits one of the listed topics and is compelling, you have a genuine chance of winning, as a single, well-suited submission will stand out in particular. Only one prize is awarded, so the best thesis will win.
