About this grant / loan

Subsidy for students in special need at the University of L'Aquila

You will receive a one-off payment of 2,000 EUR (before tax) if you are studying at the University of L’Aquila and find yourself in serious financial difficulty due to unforeseen circumstances. For the 2024/2025 academic cycle, the University has allocated 90,000 EUR and awarded 45 of these grants. The number of grants and the amount awarded have varied from year to year. This is a one-off payment, not a monthly payment. The aim is to help students whose circumstances have suddenly deteriorated to continue their studies.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of L'Aquila for the current academic year.
  • Financial hardship: You are experiencing genuine financial hardship caused by an event or circumstance that occurred during a specific period in the recent past (in a previous cycle, between 1 October and 30 September of the following year).
  • Income limit: Your income is below the ISEE threshold used for regional grants. The ISEE is Italy’s official measure of a household’s financial situation.
  • Proof: You can hand in official documents that confirm the event or circumstance behind your need.
  • Field of study: All subjects can apply.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at the University of L’Aquila.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the university portal. You must log in using your SPID (Italy’s digital identity) or a personal account and upload the required documents as PDF files. The application deadline for the final cycle was 7 November. A selection panel will review the applications. Incomplete or late applications will be rejected.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: students enrolled at the University of L’Aquila who are both below the income threshold and facing a proven hardship. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide official documentation to substantiate your circumstances, your chances are good, particularly as the university awards dozens of these scholarships in each allocation round. The most important thing is to present a clear, well-documented case.
