University of Florence - Grants for bilateral study Italo-German and Italian-Hungarian

What you get

You will receive a one-off grant of 1,250 EUR for a study period at a partner university abroad. This forms part of a dual degree programme run by the University of Florence, through which you will obtain two degrees: one from the University of Florence and one from the partner university. As part of the Italian-German degree programme, the grant is intended to fund your stay at the University of Bonn in Germany. As part of the Italian-Hungarian degree programme, it is intended to fund your stay at ELTE (Eötvös Loránd University) in Budapest. Six funding places are available for the Italian-German programme, and one for the Italian-Hungarian programme.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Florence on the Italian-German dual degree programme (Curriculum C09) or on the Italian-Hungarian dual degree programme (Curriculum C80).
• Degree level: You are studying on the Bachelor’s degree programme (L-11, Languages, Literatures and Intercultural Studies) or the Master’s degree programme (LM-37, European and American Languages and Literatures).
• Field of study: Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies with a specialisation in German or Hungarian, combined with Italian.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Credits abroad: To obtain the dual degree, you must earn at least 60 ECTS credits at the partner university.
• Selection: To be admitted to the bilateral degree programme, you must pass an entrance interview, during which your knowledge of Italian and your basic cultural understanding will be assessed. Following enrolment, scholarships will be awarded to students with the best academic results and the best portfolio.

How to apply

Apply through the University of Florence student portal (GCS system) by 31 August. Admission to the bilateral course includes an interview. If you are based at the partner university, you take it by teleconference.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly targeted. Only students who are already enrolled on one of the two specific bilateral dual-degree programmes in Florence are eligible, and there are only seven scholarships available in total. As the target group is so small, your chances are good if you are already on the right track and can demonstrate solid academic performance – particularly on the Italian-German side, where six scholarships are available. The Italian-Hungarian scholarship, with only one place available, is the most highly competitive.
