South Tyrol merit scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of 1,392 EUR for one academic year. Awards are made solely on the basis of your grades, not your income. The Autonomous Province of Bolzano – South Tyrol pays out the grant; in the current allocation round, 182 grants are available. You can combine it with other forms of financial support, such as the province’s standard study grants.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are studying at a university or university of applied sciences in Italy or abroad. If you are studying abroad, the country in question must have signed the Lisbon Convention (an agreement on the cross-border recognition of qualifications).
• Residence, if you study in South Tyrol: You are an EU citizen, a non-EU citizen with long-term residence rights or refugee status or subsidiary protection status, or a non-EU citizen who has been living in South Tyrol continuously for at least 1 years.
• Residence, if you study outside South Tyrol: You have been living in South Tyrol continuously for at least 2 years.
• Field of study: All compartments are open.
• Grades in Italy: You have earned at least 42 ECTS credits with a weighted average of at least 28/30, or you have completed your degree with a final mark of at least 107/110.
• Grades abroad: You have earned at least 42 ECTS credits with an average mark of at least 1.3 (Austrian grading system), or you have completed your degree with a final mark of at least 1.3.
• Study duration: You have exceeded the standard duration of your degree programme by no more than 6 months. You have not yet obtained any other qualification at the same or a higher level.
• Bonus points: You will receive bonus points for a language certificate at level C1 or higher (not in your mother tongue) or for an exchange programme such as Erasmus+ lasting at least 120 days. Both must take place between 1 November 2024 and 31 October 2025.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the myCIVIS portal between 16 March and 24 April 2026, 12:00. Once the applications have been assessed, a ranking list will be drawn up. The scholarships will be awarded to the best applicants who meet all the eligibility criteria.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is linked to residence in South Tyrol and requires very good grades (28/30 or a final mark of 107/110 in Italy), meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is small. As there are 182 scholarships available, your prospects are good if you significantly exceed the grade thresholds. A C1 language certificate or an Erasmus placement will earn you bonus points, which can help you move up the ranking list.
