About this scholarship

Urban Scholarship (Brunel University London)

You will receive £3,000 per year in cash (about 3,450 EUR) for up to three years of full-time study on a Bachelor’s degree programme at Brunel University London. That amounts to a total of up to £9,000 (approximately 10,350 EUR). The amount is paid out annually in three instalments and is funded by donations, not by government funds. You will only receive the money for the years in which you are actually studying on the Bachelor’s degree programme. It will not be paid out during a foundation year, a placement year or a year spent repeating a module. Brunel awards this funding to former participants in its ‘Urban Scholars Programme’, a support scheme for talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Who can apply

  • Urban Scholars Programme: You took part in Brunel University’s ‘Urban Scholars Programme’ for at least two years.
  • University: You will be starting a full-time Bachelor’s degree programme at Brunel University London. This includes degree programmes with work placements and integrated Master’s programmes.
  • Study year: You will start in the first year (or the foundation year) and will not join in the year 2 or the year 3.
  • Firm offer: When the Commission makes its decision in the autumn, your place at university will be considered an ‘unconditional offer’. This means that you have met all the requirements and have bindingly accepted the place.
  • Start date: You will start your degree programme in September of the same year. A later start date is not permitted.
  • Residence: You usually live in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland).
  • Fee status: Under UK regulations, you are considered a fee-paying ‘domestic’ student. Students from abroad, as well as those from the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, are not eligible to apply.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted by email to the Urban Scholars team. Please state your name, date of birth, student number, the years in which you took part in the programme, and your former school or university. The application deadline is 1. September, although the exact date changes each year. There is no interview. The selection panel awards the scholarship in the autumn, once A-level results are available, and every eligible applicant who applies will receive it.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very restrictive. Only former ‘Urban Scholars’ who go on to study at Brunel University are eligible to apply, so the pool of eligible candidates is small. There is no fixed quota and no selection interview. If you meet all the requirements and apply by the deadline, you will receive the funding. Your main task is to confirm your place at university and send the email before the deadline.
