About this scholarship

Erasmus+ Traineeship Scholarship (University of Twente)

You will receive 480 to 540 EUR per month for an internship abroad. This refers to an internship or a final-year dissertation at a company, a university, a research centre or another organisation in another European country. The amount of funding depends on where you are going: 540 EUR per month for countries with a higher cost of living, such as Germany, France, Italy or the Nordic countries, and 480 EUR per month for all other countries. You will also receive a one-off travel allowance, which is based on the distance from Enschede to your placement location – ranging from 28 EUR for short journeys to 580 EUR for the longest ones. You will receive more if you travel mainly by train, bus, bicycle or carpool. If you come from a low-income household or have a disability or chronic illness, you can apply for an additional 250 EUR per month. The funding comes from the EU’s Erasmus+ programme and is administered by the University of Twente (UT). The grant runs for at least 2 months and is limited to 2 months per study phase (Bachelor’s or Master’s).

Who can apply

  • University: You must be a full-time student at the University of Twente at the time of your application and throughout the duration of the placement.
  • Part of your degree: The work placement will count towards your UT degree, either as a work placement or as (part of) your final dissertation.
  • Bachelor progress: If the work placement takes place whilst you are studying for your Bachelor’s degree, you must have earned at least 60 ECTS credits before it begins.
  • Field of study: All subjects can apply.
  • Where you go: You may hold any nationality, but you must not travel to the country of which you are a national. Your destination must be one of the participating European countries and must be classified as safe by the Dutch Government.
  • Living abroad: You will live and work in the host country for the duration of your stay.
  • Where you work: You may visit a company, a university, a research laboratory or a similar organisation. However, you may not visit an EU institution itself (such as the European Commission) or an organisation that manages EU programmes.

How to apply

First, have your work placement approved by your UT degree programme. Then register via the ‘Mobility Online’ portal. Submit your application at least 4 weeks before your departure – the earlier, the better. All documents must be signed by all parties involved at least 2 weeks before the start of the work placement. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
